SA Robotics Champs

Wow! Our DSK Lego Robotics team WON the National Championships in Johannesburg this past weekend, defeating 134 rival teams! We are super proud of our team who qualified for the FLL World Championships which will be held in the USA coming April 2019!

Huge congratulations on this outstanding achievement and a big thank you to coach Ross Needham and teacher Jens Zundel, whom both have helped to build, motivate and successfully develop the team over the past years.

The FLL (“FIRST Lego League”) is a worldwide themed competition that helps learners develop Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (“STEM”) skills. The theme of this year’s competition was “Into Orbit – looking at how to meet the challenges of space travel”.  The four components of the competition were: Robot Design, Robot Game, Core Values and Project.  The team did very well in all four parts of the competition, but especially their project was praised highly.
The project was about the process on extracting methane from Mars’ atmosphere to create rocket fuel in order to return to Earth.

The preparations for the FLL World Championships in Detroit already started.

The team has started a fundraising campaign to raise money for their journey. Your donation big or small will get them one step closer to attending the World Championships! You can do an online donation via Quicket by visiting We are very grateful for your support!
