Our sports vision
DSK’s sports department’s main aim is to inspire our learners to participate, explore, and excel in physical activity as part of the curriculum and in extramurals. The school offers a broad spectrum of sports and DSK teams regularly participate in interschool competitions, galas as well as internal and external tournaments. A focus across all disciplines is placed on values needed in life and also to have fun; this may mean generating team spirit, working towards personal bests or simply trying something new.
The sports curriculum consists of two lessons per week and is structured as follows:
Term 1: swimming and athletics
Term 2: ball games
Term 3: gymnastics
Term 4: variable – weather dependent
On enrolment and until graduation from the DSK, each learner is allocated a team colour, red or blue, and they will be required to buy and wear the respective team t-shirt as part of their sports uniform.
We are proud to offer an array of sports, facilitated by qualified teachers and external coaches. Athletics, swimming, tennis, soccer, basketball, handball and volleyball are the core sports at DSK, which are in line with the disciplines at the annual Olympics of German Schools in Southern Africa, which DSK is proud to have won in 2014 and 2016. Based on demand, capacity and facilities available, a variety of additional sports are included in our programme. Participation in sports is not currently on offer at the DSK and only available to learners in partnership with neighbouring schools. Two extramural lists are available for download. Please consult these with regards to times, venues, contacts and cost (if applicable).
For more information on the events during the year, go to sports events. Dates for sports events are also indicated on the DSK Sports Calendar.
