This year our school bazaar will take place on 6 November 2021 if regulations allow us to host this event. For many decades it has been the main fundraising event of our school and it is a well-known and loved festival by many Capetonians.
The Bazaar is a parent initiative and it’s the biggest annual fundraiser of the school. Known as the ‘German cultural family fest’, it attracts not only the German community in the Cape but also people from all over Cape Town (we have had around 7000 visitors in 2019, 2018 and 2017 events). An event of this size is only possible if parents, learners, teachers, sponsors and staff get involved and work closely together, which we have managed to do with great success. At the parents’ discretion, the proceeds go towards projects in the upgrading of the school’s facilities such as; new soccer cages, the new multifunction sports court, interactive whiteboards for classrooms or for the support of individual learners at school camps or outings.
Our bazaar can only be successful, if it is carried by the whole school community. It is a mandatory school day for learners and teachers. The parents prepare and organize the various stands, and actively participate in their class’s stand on the day. After a busy working shift, the parents and learners fun factor to meet friends and enjoy what the other classes are offering is even more exciting!
At the beginning of each school year, two bazaar representatives are elected during the first parents’ evening. Their role is to organize and coordinate their fellow class parents to make their own stand as successful as possible. Some meetings with all bazaar representatives are planned, with the first one scheduled for the April month.
During this meeting, all questions regarding the various stands are answered.
The whole event is managed by the bazaar committee. They operate independently from any class activities and make sure the infrastructure provided secures a smooth and successful event.
We ask all parents for their active support, be it as a bazaar representative, a member of the bazaar committee or as an active helper at your class stand.
The bazaar offers a host of opportunities to strengthen our school community and to have fun with fellow-parents and friends.
In the course of the year, we will ask you to donate a variety of items, ranging from, as good as new clothing for our Boutique, prizes for our tombola, contemporary books in good condition and specifically picture books for our book stand any various still usable items for the flea market stand. The Mozart Café will ask for freshly baked cakes and reward a prize for the best cake.
Time and again we receive requests, whether it is possible to rent a stand at the bazaar in order to sell goods. Unfortunately this is not possible as the school bazaar’s sole purpose is to raise funds for the DSK, however, sponsors and exhibitors interested in promoting their products and services can rent a table.
