1 Athletics Sportfest Internal athletics day for all the Gr 1-7 children. Gr 1 & 2 participate in voluntary sprints and fun relays.

Gr 3-7 compete in run, jump and throw and fun relays.

1 Athletics Triathlon/ Bundesjugendpiele Gr 8-12 compete on one school day in three disciplines ie. jump, run and throw. Gr 8-12 all learners participate.  Throwing is done beforehand during regular sport lessons.

1 Swimming Primary school gala Swimming Gala Gr 2-7 Learners qualify during swimming practice in the weeks prior to the event; the 12 best swimmers of each grade compete in freestyle; the 6 best swimmers of each grade compete in breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly, Marie-Luise Visser marievisser@dsk.co.za

1 Interschool Galas Gr 2-7 and Gr 8-12 The most successful swimmers are selected for the DSK swim squad who represents the school at interschools galas in Cape Town and surrounds.  Selection for galas are taken from results of internal swimming galas. Children/parents will be notified if they will be swimming in a gala. High School galas:

1 Games / various sport disciplines Olympiade The biennial sporting highlight at DSK is the prestigious Sports Olympiad organised by the German schools in Southern Africa (Cape Town, Windhoek, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Hermannsburg).

The venue for the Olympiad rotates; the 2018 event will be hosted at the DHPS in Windhoek.

A team of 48 students are selected based on their ability within a sports discipline ie. athletics, swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball, soccer and handball.

The team is divided into 3 age groups:

Group 1: Age group 2004 and younger
Group 2: Age group 2002/2003
Group 3: Age group 2000/2001 /1999

Qualification at trials held in October and January before Olympiad.  Every learner from Grade 5 up is welcome.

An inter-class sports day of different disciplines / games for different grades.

The most successful team and the team with the best team spirit will be honoured in an assembly before the winter holidays.

All children participate:

Gr 1-4: dodge ball
Gr 5-7: handball and soccer.

8-12: basketball and volleyball
We alternate every year.

3 Football SLIM Cup The SLIM Cup is a girls’ indoor soccer tournament for Gr 8-12 learners. 6-8 teams from neighbourhood schools are invited and fight for the SLIM Cup trophy which is a highlight at the end of the soccer season. Peter Magcweka
4 Speina Cup The Speina Cup is an internal soccer tournament for the Gr 1-4 learners and takes place just before the December holidays. Marie Luise Visser


4 Get Together Soccer Tournament It is a fun-filled soccer tournament with the aim of bringing children together from diverse backgrounds.  Schools stretching from Khayelitsha through to Hout Bay join in on the day. Reedwaan Pandit
