Comprehensive Career Guidance

Future Proof Career Guidance

At the DSK, we provide specialized guidance for students planning to pursue higher education in Germany or further their careers in South Africa. This service is exclusively available to DSK students at no charge, except for specific events like the study trip to Germany.

General Study and Career Guidance

Once a week, a teacher trained in study and career counselling, offers an office hour for interested learners. During these sessions, learners can undergo aptitude and personality tests, receive information on subject selection, job shadowing, scholarship opportunities, and studying in Germany or South Africa. Appointments for these consultations are booked directly with the study and career advisors

Social Internship

In Grade 9, DSK learners have the opportunity to gain experience in a social or non-profit institution, earning a certificate of attendance for their participation.

Workshop on Study and Career Choices

At the start of Grade 10, learners participate in a mandatory workshop on study and career choices. This workshop uses selected test procedures to identify interests and inclinations, providing initial insights into potential career paths.

Job Expo

Every two years, the DSK hosts a job expo featuring 20-30 different occupational fields. Parents and alumni present their work and answer questions, while up to 50 private training institutions and universities have information stands. Participation is mandatory for all students in Grades 9–12.

Job Shadowing

Grade 10 learners can gain practical experience in a field of their choice for one week, with these experiences evaluated in Life Orientation classes.

University Visits

Grade 11 learners typically visit the University of Stellenbosch and UCT as part of their career guidance in Life Orientation. These visits include important registration information and often offer a glimpse into university life through lectures.

Study Trip to Germany

In June, a group of Grade 11 learners can participate in a voluntary study trip to Germany, visiting universities and colleges. Participants cover the costs themselves.

Mentor System

Transitioning from school to university presents new challenges. Former DSK learners serve as mentors, offering advice on accommodation, campus life, and subject choices.

Alumni Network

The DSK maintains an online alumni network and Facebook page, enabling former students to connect and stay in touch with the school. Alumni play a vital role in our career counseling network.

Information for Parents

Regular information sessions on “Training and Studying in Germany” are held during the Grade 10 and 11 parent evenings.
