Embark on a Journey of Cultural Discovery Student Exchange
German Exchange Program
As part of our commitment to supporting German language and culture, the DSK offers an exchange programme through which our Grade 9 and 10 learners take part in a two-week exchange each year with the Karl Kübel School in Bensheim. A central aspect of this experience is staying with local host families, which provides authentic cultural immersion. The exchange programme is open to learners from both the German and English streams.
Bavarian Exchange (Bayerischer Jugendring)
Grade 8 & 9 learners from the English stream can engage in a 10-week exchange with schools in Bavaria. During this time, they live with host families and attend school alongside their host ‘siblings’. In return, German learners come to Cape Town, live with their families for 10 weeks, and attend DSK. This popular exchange is known for its rewarding cultural and educational experiences.
Study Trip to Germany
For Grade 11 learners interested in pursuing higher education in Germany, we offer a 2-week study trip. This journey includes visits to several universities across Germany, providing insights into student life and opportunities to connect with DSK alumni currently studying there.
Lifelong Benefits
No matter which opportunity our learners choose, they return with a richer understanding of diverse cultures and lifestyles. For many, it’s their first time away from home or overseas. Beyond educational advantages and exposure to the German language, learners often cite personal growth and new friendships as the greatest benefits.
While student exchanges are generally at the parents’ expense, financial support is available to ensure every learner has the opportunity to participate, regardless of their financial situation.
