Our School Team

Meet our Team

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the German International School Cape Town!

I would like to take you on an exciting journey, from A to Z – from start to finish. At a school defined by openness and diversity. Here, we instil values in young people that empower them to become responsible, globally-minded individuals ready to make an impact.

In a rapidly changing world, it is our mission to prepare our learners for these dynamic challenges. We place each individual at the centre of our approach and focus on personalised support. We firmly believe that education is more than simply imparting knowledge. It is about remaining curious, unlocking creativity, and learning independence – whether in the classroom, in social interactions or in any personal development.

Our approach is rooted in the German educational ideal, which emphasises independent thinking and action. We prioritise equipping our learners with the ability to think critically, solve problems creatively, and learn independently, so they can confidently face the challenges of today’s world.

The German language plays a central role here, yet it is far more than just a subject. It shapes our daily school life and opens a variety of opportunities for our learners, both nationally and internationally. At the same time, we promote a culture of linguistic diversity that enables to navigate confidently in our connected world.

As a German International School in Cape Town, we take pride in being a hub that builds bridges between different cultures and societies. Founded on Christian and humanistic values, we are committed to social engagement, environmental protection, and a strong community that actively lives and promotes diversity.

As the principal, it is particularly important to me that freedom and equality are not just words for us, but tangible values that are truly lived and felt every day. We educate our learners to be responsible individuals who make their own decisions and treat others with respect. At the same time, we ensure that every young person has an equal chance – regardless of their background.

I warmly invite you to become part of our dynamic school community and to get to know us better. Let us shape our future together!

Yours sincerely,

Sabrina Gellermann

School Board

The DSK is supported by a dedicated school board in addition to the school management. It consists of representatives from DSK, the German Consul General, the pastor of the St. Martini Church, and elected parents. Together with the school management, the school board shapes the strategic direction of the DSK and significantly influences its vision. All parents are invited to the Annual General Meeting, where board members are elected for two-year terms. Parents with children at DSK can run for election and thus actively contribute to the school’s development.

Our Teachers

Highly qualified and dedicated

Our teachers are either seconded from Germany or are employed locally. This enables us to offer the best possible bilingual lessons. All staff regularly take part in training and further education programmes in order to incorporate the latest trends in didactics and pedagogical developments into the lessons.

Thanks to our highly qualified and dedicated teachers, who are also involved in numerous extracurricular activities and events, we achieve top results year after year in the academic, sporting and artistic fields.

SRC – Student Representative Council

Building a community. Giving every learner a voice.

As your Student Representative Council (SRC), we are dedicated to fostering a strong, united school community where every learner feels heard and valued. Community is more than just a word—it is about creating an environment where everyone belongs, respects one another, and works together towards shared goals.

Why it matters
A strong school community empowers learners to thrive. It is a space where ideas are shared, differences are celebrated, and teamwork drives success. When we come together, we build connections that make our school not just a place of learning but a second home.

Your voice counts
The SRC is here to ensure your voice is heard. Whether you have ideas for new events, feedback on school policies, or suggestions for improvement, we want to hear from you. Together, we can address concerns and create solutions that benefit everyone.
