New subjects, exciting projects, and the first steps towards future planning.
Starting from Grade 5, the DSK offers two streams: the German Stream and the English Stream.
While the German stream is predominantly German-speaking and aims to achieve the German International Abitur in combination with the South African Matric, the English stream offers non-German-speaking learners the opportunity to learn German as a foreign language.
German Stream
German-speaking learners start their education with the DSK in Grade 1 and can continue until Grade 12 (German stream).
Learners from the German and English stream graduate with South African and European university entrance qualifications.
English Stream
Our English stream intake begins in Grade 5 where learners can join the school without prior knowledge of the German language.
If a learner demonstrates strong German language skills, they may have the opportunity to switch to the German stream.
The German Language Diploma (DSD II) is an integral part of the curriculum in the English stream.
Learners from the German and English stream graduate with South African and European university entrance qualifications.
Curriculum
- Languages are central to the DSK curriculum. In addition to the core subjects of German and English (which are taught at the level of a native speaker), we offer French, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa as foreign languages.
- Our students benefit from a diverse educational programme, with several subjects taught bilingually in German and English.
- To build a strong foundation, the DSK follows a structured, step-by-step approach to bilingual teaching.
- In some subjects, learners from both streams are taught together, promoting exchange and cooperation. This, along with a broad range of extramurals, provides students with ample opportunities to engage both socially and academically.
